When the one you love does not want the same thing…

Synopsis

He’s got the girl of his dreams; he’s playing the game as captain of the team, and he’s working on getting the graduation gown. The finish line is in sight. All Jeremy has to do is stay focused, work hard, and keep pushing. He has finally gotten his life together, and he’s ready to rock this adulting thing.
Or at least he was.
Things unravel quicker than you can say ‘pass the puck’ when Chelsea’s ex, Johnny, moves to Alabama to play for the Chargers. Jeremy’s Chargers.
On thin ice with his girl, his team and his degree. Jeremy wonders… What if love really isn’t enough?

My review

Jeremy is finding himself finally in the position he wanted to be. He is together with Chelsea, he is captain of his team and graduation is getting closer.
However he is not getting his happily ever after yet, because Chelsea does not want the big commitment he is ready to make. And also on the ice he finds himself not being his usual self, especially since Chelsea’s ex is also being on the team.
Now that he knows what he wants from life, is life and love him keeping from his happily ever after? What if loving someone is just not enough?

Jeremy is a character that slowly, over several books stole my heart. In the Lisa and A.J. series he is this funny friend, but also one that is always ready to help out. But we didn’t really get to know him. So when he got his own series, I was very curious about this crazy friend of two people I started to care about.

In this book, we see Jeremy truly mature. We know that previously he has been through devastating events, but each time he was able to see the silver linings again.
This story starts kind of happy. Jeremy and Chelsea are together, but when secrets come out, will their relationship hold?

Jeremy learns the hard way that trying to change people is not the way to achieve his own dreams. And when one dream falls apart, it seems like a domino effect. Not only his relationship with Chelsea ends, but also on the ice and at school there are problems.

I think this last part is the most heart – breaking one of them all. Jeremy goes from a player to wanting the commitment, but ends up alone. I already knew he was a good guy, a wonderful friend, even if sometimes a bit immature. But the Jeremy in this book is the guy everyone wants to end with. He goes all the way for the people he loves. And what an amazing godfather he is. if you don’t swoon over those bits, there is something wrong with you!

I have to admit, there was a point in the story I hated Chelsea… HOW COULD SHE DO THAT TO JEREMY???? I was disliking her so much, that I didn’t want Jeremy to love her anymore. If she didn’t appreciate him, I wanted Jeremy to find happiness with someone else. But of course,  it’s not easy to stop loving someone…

Without giving too much away, the ending was just perfection…
The author managed to capture my attention and didn’t let go of me. I was submerged in a story full of love, heartbreak and how life can throw you curveballs.
But it was also about finding a way to move on, find the courage and ability to mature and realizing when you were in the wrong.
And for me personally, it was also about falling even more deeply in love with Jeremy!
