Synopsis

The perfect couple … or the perfect lie?

A year and a half ago, Gemma met the love of her life, Danny. Since then, their relationship has been like something out of a dream. But one Friday evening, Gemma returns home to find Danny is nowhere to be seen.

After two days with no word from her husband, Gemma turns to the police. She is horrified by what she discovers – a serial killer is on the loose in Bristol. When she sees the photos of the victims she is even more stunned … they all look just like Danny.

But the police aren’t convinced by Gemma’s story. Why has no one apart from Gemma seen or heard from Danny in weeks? Why is there barely a trace of him in their flat? Is she telling them the truth, or are there more secrets and lies in this marriage than meets the eye?

My review

Gemma is a happy woman. She is nearly one year married with Danny, she just moved to a lovely house in Bristol and has a job as a freelancer she truly enjoys.

When on a Friday evening she comes back home, there is no sign of Danny. Initially she thinks he is working at the office, but after two days there is still no Danny…
Seeing no other option, she goes to the police filing him as officially missing. When she discovers that 2 other men looking like Danny have been murdered, she fears her husband was victim number 3 of a serial killer.

The police although do not believe Gemma’s story but believe somehow she’s involved with all the murders and the disappearance of her husband. What is really going on?

What a story full of twists and turns!!!
initially I had a suspicion. After a few chapters, ok discard that suspicion, we have something else. After another few chapters, ok I was again wrong, discard that one also.
And so the whole story went on! It got me so confused, suspicious of just each character! If my last one was wrong, well last possibility was that the dog did it all!

Initially I felt sorry for Gemma, but the further we got, the weirder everything got. Things came out of the closet which made no sense at all if we just kept believing what Gemma said.
Also the way she starts to try to make up possibilities seems a stretch too far, which isn’t making it easier for the reader to believe her innocence.

I found myself reading all the time. I had to know what was really going on. Those moments I wasn’t reading I was wondering what could possibly be going on. So the story just was stuck in my head and I couldn’t put it behind me.
The urge to find out the truth was the most important thing at that moment.

And when the truth was out, I kind of felt afraid and dissatisfied. Not because of a bad ending, because this book shows that you never truly know someone. And that danger lingers just around the corner!

A thriller like all thrillers should be, making you wonder who the bad guy/girl is, full of twists and turns you never imagined!
